300 million in financing for the development of oil and gas fields in Omans Musandam peninsula. The funding support is being provided by the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), a self-sustaining US government agency that helps American businesses invest in emerging markets. 150 million of insurance for PetroTels activities. PetroTels local subsidiaries PetroTel Oman LLC (PTO) and PetroTel Oman Offshore LLC (PTOO) operate Block 17 and Block 40 respectively in Musandam. Both licenses are 100 per cent owned by PetroTel Energy. With funding support from OPIC, PetroTel plans to build facilities, as well as a three-kilometre offshore pipeline that will carry hydrocarbons to the existing Musandam Gas Processing Plant at Tibat. Importantly, PetroTels investments promise to fuel Musandams economic development, while also transforming the US-based energy firm as a major producer of hydrocarbons.
Natural gas from the onshore and offshore fields will support investments in civil, economic, tourism and industrial infrastructure, while also opening up opportunities for business development and job creation in this Omani enclave. Dr Anil Chopra, Chairman and CEO of PetroTel, said: PetroTel has been active on this project for over a decade and was the first company ever to drill an onshore well in Musandam. We are bringing state-of-the-art American technology to this project and look forward to contributing significantly to the socio-economic growth and development in this Governorate. We are thankful to the Government of Oman for this great opportunity. Now, with financing from OPIC, we can build on the foundation we have laid over the last decade.
This project will nurture and strengthen the strong friendship between Oman and the United States of America. PetroTel has pledged to recruit hundreds of local Omanis from Musandam Governorate in its operations. 60 million in contracts and services procured locally. PetroTel will also make contributions towards schools, medical clinics and other facilities in the Governorate that will benefit the local community, the Corporation noted. Ray W Washburne, President and CEO of OPIC, commented: The United States and Oman have enjoyed a productive diplomatic relationship for over 200 years. By helping to create jobs and maintain stability in the Governorate, this project will help advance that relationship. Covering a total area of around 2.1 million acres, the contiguous Blocks 17 and 40 are home to some of the most exciting plays in hydrocarbon exploration and production, according to PetroTel. Block 17 is mostly onshore while Block 40 is mostly offshore with shallow waters averaging 70 metres.
Having a lovely time here. We took a package from HolidayMe. The hotel is very nice. The people of the hotel are also very nice. We are looking forward to the rest of our trip. Hope it is as good as this place. We wish that we were closer to the the beach though. Enjoyed a lovely time with the family on this trip to Musandam. Lovely locals, although most of them are immigrants. The ambience of the place oozes relaxation, and that’s exactly what we did here with the entire family. HolidayMe keep up the good work. Just returned from a trip to Musandam with my family.
Nothing much to do there, except the beaches. But the Dhow cruise was very nice. It was a good experience. Tourists don’t come here much so the crowds are very less. Good for relaxing. It was a good thing that I agreed to HolidayMe’s suggestions to add this to our itinerary. What a nice time we had at Musandam. HolidayMe planned the perfect package, we were able to cover all the tourist attractions of thisplace. It is a small place, and apart from the beaches there isn’t much to do. But for relaxing it is the best. There are no crowds, well almost no crowds, and it is very peaceful. The hotel was also a good one, and we were very well attended to.
I would recommend the hotel as well as HolidayMe to everybody. Their prices are pretty decent too, and they let you customize the packages as per your needs. Visiting Musandamwith my wife. Bought a package through HolidayMe. Lovely place… The beaches are very clean and secluded. The food at the hotel is good, but we are planning to explore local street food. Looking forward to the Dhow cruise. The Dhow cruise in Musandam was spectacular. It was nearly an hour long, and took us really far into the sea. Thank god HolidayMe putit in our itinerary, or we would not have gone on a tour on an old boat. But the old boat is the charm of the entire ride. Musandam is a very beautiful place, with sandy beaches and blue waters till as far as the eyes can see. We also got a good deal on the price of the package, and that helped me spend more on shopping. Nice time we had, my husband was very happy with my choice.

Our first day in Musandam was, as it turned out, the one and only day we would have good weather. Luckily we had planned to spend the day scuba diving! We went with Ras Musandam Diver, and it was a great experience. The Ras Musandam dive boat left from Khor An Najd, so we got to explore different fjords than we would have on a dhow trip or something leaving from Khasab. The diving wasn’t spectacular, but we still enjoyed it. It’s always fun to explore a new place and the I love the thrill I get from descending someplace I’ve never been before.
In this case I was reminded why it’s important to look down when you’re descending: I almost went crashing down on the reef and sea urchins, which were much shallower than I expected them to be! The problem with diving is that sometimes the conditions are perfect and sometimes they’re not. That day the sea was too rough to go very far out towards the open water and visibility was mediocre. We didn’t see anything particularly different from what we see in and around Muscat, although there were more Arabian angelfish and clown fish. I also finally got to play around with the diving filters on my GoPro (with varying levels of success). Taking the boat through the fjords was cool, and during our surface interval we went on shore and walked around the ruins of a village on the beach.
Our dive leader, Fawzy, also took us to a shallow beach full of black tipped reef sharks! Nate went snorkeling there, hoping he get to see the sharks, but they stealthily stayed away from him. It was a lovely day in and out of the water, and definitely the most fun we had on the entire trip. More about Ras Musandam Diver: they went above and beyond to give us the best experience possible. Fawzy recruited his sister when our child care plans fell through, and on the drive to the boat slip he stopped for photo opportunities. Nate and I were the only customers on the boat, and they had towels, water, juice, snacks, pizza, Egyptian pastries, and coffee for us. Fawzy was in no hurry and really just wanted us to have the best day possible. He even threw extra tanks in the car when I asked if we were doing two dives and he said, "Oh, you want to do a third? " If you want to scuba dive in Musandam, we highly recommend Ras Musandam Diver!
