The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSA) was formed in 1916 in an effort to promote sports participation and to establish eligibility rules. The association is now 500 schools strong, serves 200,000 students, and is a member of the National Federation of State High School Associations. The association, even speech and debate, is divided into divisions based on size and ranges from A-AAAAA (although speech and debate only go from class A to class AA. In 1929 Speech and Debate were added into the association’s list of activities that were to be state regulated and supported.
