Why I prefer sloppy writing to a few, tidy quips.

I will be the first to state that in my time I have made fun of some of the judges' handwriting I have had to translate on critique sheets. Always on the bus or back at school - away from the judges - obviously! It didn't hit me until years after I did speech though that the ones who were writing with fervor, and ultimately in a tiny scrawl, were the ones that typically had the most useful comments. They noticed a lot and had lots to say! So yes, make fun of the handwriting (how could you not!?), but remember all those messy lines were hurriedly written to better help you in competition.
