I wanted to update local coaches and parents with some exciting news about the Oregon Global Debate Institute.

http://blogs.uoregon.edu/ogdi/

First, we are at 30 students registered and rising. This represents a huge increase in the number of students over last year. Second, and more exciting still, is that more than 20 of these are policy debate students, about half from the Portland area and half from the Los Angeles area. We have reached critical mass in policy debate.

Third, we have a much more accomplished staff in place for this OGDI with future additions planned. We have Jackie Massey, Director of Debate at Oklahoma, without any doubt the most successful college policy debate coach of the last 10 years and one of the most successful of all time. I will be working at the institute this year, bringing my unique perspective as an information scientist to lectures about research and evidence evaluation.

We are adding parliamentary debaters to the institute daily and, of course, will build on our continuing strength in parliamentary debate, including a 3rd place finish this past March.

We have a one-week individual events institute, the only one in the Pacific Northwest which will prepare students for every kind of event.

Of particular interest to you and your students is that we have attractive commuter options for students in the Eugene-Springfield area. Some local students may value evening activities and choose to stay in the dorms but others can enroll for instruction and practice during the day as part of the commuter option, available for both debate and individual events.

More information can be found at the OGDI website and students can register via the website.

Your students have an opportunity to participate in a relatively low-cost, high-quality summer speech and debate institute. Please pass along to other coaches and parents.

Thank you for sharing this information! I'm certain that speechies and debaters in your area found this enlightening.

Any updates?
