So this is my first season, and I've been doing a prose and poetry piece. I've been doing really well in them. However, those events don't go to nats, so my coach told me to get a DI piece. Districts are in a week. I've never done this event before. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi Sarah! This is my third season doing DI, and what I have found makes an amazing performance is finding a piece that you like and involves a topic you are passionate about or have gone through yourself. For example, during my first year doing DI, I performed "The Bald and the Beautiful" by J.J. Jonas, and dedicated it to a friend who had cancer. Since you only have a week or so, I would recommend picking a monologue instead of a full-length play or book because of your time frame. In the past, I have used sites like brookpub.com and jddramapublishing.com and went to the monologue section. For brookpub, choose the Genre that says Drama. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to contact me!
