Character pops?

I've always been curious, but what do prose reading competitors do to show different characters? Do you guys have huge character pops (with the binder)? haha, yes, this might be a silly question, but I'm helping someone with the event, so any help would be terrific. Thanks!

I've competed in prose and humor. While in humor, character pops are definitely preferred, in prose they're not. In pieces with multiple characters, we still shift between characters, but many judges knock off for legitimate "pops". This is because we are reading dramatically, and character pops would seem too much like acting with a script.
Hope that clears it up for you. :) I was very distressed the first time a judge made a comment about it in prose, and I needed it explained for me, too.
