A Fourth NFL Debate Event?

Swift-talking and use of jargon (which could cause isolation) is becoming popular in PF Debate, causing enough to complain and cause the National Forensics League to issue change.  Today, the NFL announced plans for a fourth debate event called Town Hall Debate (think they got the name from the recent use of Town Hall Meetings Obama and Co.

For the Kids?

This might be a pet peeve of mine, being an English Major, but it always upsets me when an individual assumes that a kid book means the content is lesser than a "classic.” I find this insulting to the child whom the novel is geared towards and any adult who happens to read the literature. A “kid’s book” can be far more profound than any book churned out to the masses. Think about it.

Going too far?

There comes a time when you read a script and have to wonder if it goes too far. Is the twist at the end too extreme? Is the content somewhat obscure, violent, or odd? You want to strive for innovation, but is this a tad much?

 

Make your own cuts; don’t just take leftovers

How often have you found yourself scrambling to find a piece? You have to find a new piece for the upcoming tournament and NOTHING is appealing. You have exhausted the team files, searched on-line, and now you are going to the final option: asking others for past pieces. We have all been in this scenario, and we have all succumbed to the anxiety and bitter frustration of being pieceless.

Extemporaneous Speaking: Things to Know

Extempers are some of the most diligent people in Forensics. Not only are they competing in an event most speechies know little about, Extempers need to be masters of organization, research, improvised speech delivery, public speaking, and current events in politics/history.
